Day 1

Fairfield Hovd to Jargalant Mountain

Departing from Fairfield Hovd Guesthouse and Café, spend the morning travelling toward the Jargalant Mountain Range. As you cross the steppe, keep your eyes and camera ready to catch a glimpse of the rare Saiga antelope.

Arrive at the foothills of Jargalant and begin your choice of scenic hike or horse trek to your campsite for night one. This area is home to eagles, vultures, and mountain goats, so stay alert for sights, sounds, and other signs as you go.

Make camp in a beautiful valley surrounded by towering mountain peaks. Be sure to capture the stunning sunset light on the mountains before settling in for dinner around the campfire under a sky full of stars.

Day 2

Wildlife Tracking and Mountain Exploration

Rise early to catch a spectacular sunrise over the mountain range–be sure to keep that camera close.

After breakfast, set out on a full-day expedition up the mountain, searching for ibex, argali (wild) sheep, and traces of snow leopards. As you go, be sure to break for panoramic views of this dramatic landscape.

Enjoy a packed lunch, then spend the afternoon continuing to explore the region’s remote valleys and rocky cliffs, keeping an eye out for marmots, foxes, and soaring birds of prey.

Return to camp for a well-earned dinner and an evening by the fire, sharing stories under the Mongolian sky.
